The Weird Side of Modelling - America's Next Top Model

I have been drawn into trash fest America's Next Top Model. I know, i know, its awful, but to be honest i couldn't care less about the scenes of them in the communal living space or who's getting on who's nerves, i just really like the photoshoots.

Some of them have been quite imaginative and i always love looking at unusually attired women; some of the pictures have just been amazingly macabre or insane, and remind me of the fashion show in zoolander called 'derelict' (pronounced dereleect).

I do know that a couple of the photographers/designers were Jared Gold and Mike Rosenthal.

The final pic is by Jared Gold but wasn't part of the show. I just thought they looked cool.

Witches in the Autumn

Autumn is well and truly upon us, which makes me very happy. It's unfashionable to say so but i've always loved autumn and winter more than summer, plus October brings my birthday and halloween, and then there's Christmas.

At the moment i'm reading a book called witchfinders, which is about the witch trials that happened in Essex in the 17th century. In America it happened mostly in Salem, but in the UK Matthew Hopkins aka the 'witchfinder general' - funny because i used to call my hamster the digmeister general - caused a mass genocide of 'witches' around where i live, Chelmsford and other parts of Essex.

It's quite atmospheric reading in the cold evenings, watching the terrible weather outside, covered in two huge blankets. Try it.

Time Travel

Last night i watched a documentary i'd downloaded called Time Trip. First it told me of Newton's ideas that time moved in a straight line and governed us all, with no room for movement, and that our futures were pre-determined and had been since the beginning.

Next came Einstein's theory and, though it sounded mental (like Newton's doesn't) it's important to remember that he really did split the atom and create nuclear power. If i have any of this wrong i apologise. He said that time moves differently in different places, for example it moves slower in space, and all of our ancestors and future relatives and so on are alive right now, occupying the same space. You'd be able to move forwards through time but you couldn't come back, to move back in time you'd need to move faster than the speed of light. So, basically, time travel is theoretically impossible, as it was also said at one point during the documentary that you wouldn't be able to venture further back than the creation of the time machine. I'm not sure how or why, but i'm going to assume that's true.

Apparently some scientists are thinking about how they can create a virtual reality of the past, like - i thought - the Matrix or Westworld. The people in these realities would have their own thoughts and feelings. The only thing with that, i thought to myself, is that it would be some scientist's impression of the past. I mean, take dinosaurs. We have got things wrong about them before, who's to say we wouldn't be entering a world of almost make-believe. What about the texture of their skin, for example, or their colour? You might not think it's important but it would make me doubt everything i saw there.

Also there was one other drawback, they finished by saying, if there are thousands or millions of virtual worlds, the chances of you turning out to be a real person from the original world is slim, therefore you might not be real. I think at this point i'll leave that with you.

Butoh

A bizarre and fascinating style of dance that orginated in Japan, many of the themes deal with taboo subjects such as death. Plus it looks quite cool.

The Forbidden Zone

I think it's official, i fancy Satan.

I'm a big Derren Brown fan first off and find him more than a little attractive, and he can appear a little satanic especially with his beard. But the other night i watched a film called the Forbidden Zone, which was a film from 1980 by Richard Elfman. His brother Danny, music writer for Tim Burton, theme of the Simpsons and many others, wrote the music for it. It's probably one of the weirdest films i've ever seen but i seriously love it.

As a quick side point there is a character in it which really shocked me, though i think i understand what they were doing. The entire film is a kind of live action cartoon in the style of betty boop and other disturbing jazz cartoons from the 30s and the music is inspired by Cab Calloway, and in that theme there's a seriously over the top blacked up character which looks a little like papa lazarou from the league of gentlemen (another thing people should watch).

Anyway... i love the bit where Danny Elfman and his band Oingo Boingo appear in a scene in Hell, with Danny as Satan. Now, i've seen pictures before and i have to say i didn't really notice him, but as Satan i thought he was pretty sexy even with the ridiculous fake beard. To me, that says only one thing. I must have a thing for Satan.

Michael Jackson Dummy

A special dummy for those die hard fans, or a new ventriloquism act. Possibly less plastic than the real thing.

La Musica

At the moment i really love Florence and the Machine's album Lungs. The dark lyrics beneath beautifully pretty music is amazing.

Also i'm enjoying Pom Pom, the best of Chibo Matto. They were a band in the 90s though the two girls, Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda (Sean Lennon's ex) are still going. I like them.

I am also listening to Serengetti and Polyphonic's album Terradactyl. It's hip hop over interestingly pretty music.
